The Story

1

Learn about colour & mood boards

Across the first 10 workshops with Year 2 to Year 6 pupils, we explored colour, emotion and storytelling. Through conversations, shared memories and creative activities, pupils learned about colour theory and created their own mood boards to express ideas.

Co-Creating
the Design

Rose brought together the pupils’ ideas and voices into a series of design options. In the following 10 sessions, 350 pupils voted on the elements they wanted to include. Every vote counted, and the final design was refined into a cohesive artwork for school and council approval.

Bringing it
to Life

During four additional painting workshops, children and parents or carers worked alongside professional artist Rose Hill to paint sections of the mural. Rose, Kate and Tessa then completed the artwork. The result is more than a mural. It is a symbol of pride, belonging and unity.

About Our Design

The vibrant mural designs spell out Holmleigh Primary School values, creating a meaningful talking point for the pupils and the wider school community.

The mural acts as a visual alphabet, where specific letters are represented by distinct, playful images painted in bright, colourful squares.
