In the heart of London, the Finsbury Park Mural Project is taking shape, of collaboration and community engagement. In partnership with Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) and Arsenal Football Club, this initiative aims to transform Finsbury Park Station into a vibrant canvas of expression. As we explore the creative process, let's explore how this unique collaboration is unfolding and the impact it is having on the community.

The focus of this project is the involvement of young minds, individuals aged between 14 and 15 from the City of London Academy Highbury Grove. The workshops provide an inclusive platform for them to express their artistic skills and contribute to the visual identity of their community.

The creative workshops included activities such as exploring mood boards, learning about colour, creating patterns, and co-designing. The journey of expression and creativity unfolds, allowing the participants to tap into their imaginative potential.

Tracy Jarvis, leading GTR's community relations team, emphasises the importance of collaboration. "With Rose’s creative leadership, Arsenal’s invaluable local relationships and practical support, and our young artists’ enthusiasm and commitment, we’re working together to provide Finsbury Park with a public artwork that will truly enrich the community our station serves."

The mural at Finsbury Park Station stands as a vibrant testament to the diversity of the community, drawing inspiration from the life experiences of those aged 14 -15. Cultural motifs from various backgrounds intertwine seamlessly, showcasing the rich tapestry of traditions within the community.

Participants used skills acquired from our workshops and collaborated to create designs that authentically reflected their community. The core themes of these designs encompass Ghanaian, Jamaican, and contemporary global issues. The mural serves as a reflection of the thoughts and ideas of the younger generation, symbolising the friendships and connections strengthened throughout this project.
